Artist's Checks!

I found the cutest thing yesterday.  I was on Donna Downey's site (I love her art) and, along with the many wonderful items that she sells, she had checks with her artwork on them.  I went to the CheckAdvantage site and also found Dina Wakley (another one of my favorite artists) checks.

Hand-Painted Papers

I'm addicted to making painted papers.  Most of them start out on the Gelli Plate, but I also just throw some paint down on others.  They are so pretty and you can use them for so many things.

I've cut them up and used them to make cards, collages, bookmarks, and in my art journal.  You could cut them down into Artist Trading Card (ATC) size and have a ready-made background.

Since we seem to have a "deli paper" shortgage in my area, I've start using tracing paper instead.  I found several pads of tracing paper in my, ridiculously, large art supply stash, and it's exactly like deli paper (and you don't have that obnoxious fold line in the middle).

I'm going to sell some of my papers on Etsy.  I've also cut out little circles and doo-dads with a punch.  These would be great for scrapbookers and cardmakers.

Paper 53 IPad Drawing App

I've been taking a Tracy Bautista workshop and there was a part on "digital art".  I've never used a computer drawing program before, but I really like it.

I'm using the Paper 53 Ipad app.  As you can see, my drawings are very simple.  I'm trying to get used to the feel of the stylus and learn all of the different tools, etc.

Here's what I've come up with so far.  

If you've never tried it, you should.  This program is Paper 53.  It's free.  I'm also messing around with ArtRage.

Blue Beatrice Painting Step by Step

I wanted to paint something a couple days ago, but I didn't have any ideas. So, since I haven't played with my Molding Paste (Golden) in a while, I laid some mesh and a stencil on the canvas and pushed the paste thru with a pallet knife. I forgot to take a picture of this step.  It takes about 24 hours to completely dry. I let it dry overnight.

Still, a day later, I didn't have any firm concept, so I just started by slapping some blue and white paint on a 12" X 12" canvas. I started dripping, thinned, fluid acrylic and airbrush paint along the top of the canvas, just letting it go wherever it wanted.

I've been organizing my art supplies recently and have come across many, many things that I haven't seen in over a year. I have a rubber stamp by Pam Carriker (I love her art).  The stamp was 4" X 3", so I made a copy, enlarged it, cut a rough stencil out of cardstock and sponge the paint thru.

I can't stay away from the dots, lines and circles so, of course, I added them using the top of a small plastic container, a stamp that I cut out of an eraser, and stencil with dots.

I cut a, sort of, starburst stencil out of cardstock and added the rays with Golden Quinacridone Azo Gold.  I went back with some black gesso and re-painted the face.

Handmade Cards

I made a couple cards yesterday, using some papers that I printed on the Gelli Plate.

On this one, I cut out the flower petals and leaves, then collaged them on with gel medium.  I ripped up some handmade paper that I bought a long time ago with the Japanese writing.  Outlined everything with a Pitt pen and added some white gesso circles with the end of a straw.  I added some washi tape at the bottom.

For this one, I just cut three strips from papers that I made earlier.  Printed the word "Love" on the computer, then cut it out and glued it to a scrap of Gelli print.  I used gel medium to attach everything, then added more gel medium to the top.  I also, outlined everything with a black, archival pen.

Playing with the Gelli Again.

The best thing about gelli printing is that there is, virtually, no cleanup.  When I want to do something....yet....not get too involved...I slap some paint on the Gelli Plate.  Here are some papers that I made to use in collages....and a pic of my table, as proof that I was, actually, working.

Here are some of the, handmade, stamps and masks that I use for texture.

Art Journalling Workshop

I mentioned a few days ago that I was taking an online workshop, Tracy Bautista's Art Journal Play Live 2015.

After the first two lessons, this is what I've created.  The first lesson was Circle Abstract Patterns.  Basically, she was teaching how to use the brush freely, play with different colors, etc.

The second was Floral Prints and Patterns.  I didn't have all of the supplies that she used for this tutorial.  It would have been better when Golden High Flow Paint.  She also used a paint applicator with a very, very thin tip to draw the outlines and miscellaneous marks in black paint.  My applicator was slightly larger, so I ended up with some thick lines and big blobs of paint.  Oh well!

I'm enjoying this and getting some, much needed, inspiration.
