Creative Heart Monday - Jar of Flowers

Happy Creative Heart Monday!!

Donna Downey came out with a new line of stencils.  She's been putting up a video, by a different artist, every day all month.  The stencils are great, so, of course, I had to get them.

I'll tell you a little story about painting glass jars.  In my art class in high school, we had to paint a still life.  The teacher had placed a box, a shoe, and a glass jar on a table together for us to paint.  I just could not paint the jar.  I didn't know how to paint glass.  Finally, my teacher came over and painted it for me.  When I took the painting home (and for years after), people would look at the painting and always comment on the glass jar.  I hated that because I knew I didn't paint it.  They never said "nice shoe" or "nice box"....it was always the, freaking, jar.  Now, I was honest...I would always say that I didn't really paint the jar....but it really bugged me.

This is why, when my, 10 year old protege, Alicia, comes over to paint, I never, ever touch her work.  She has her canvas, paper, etc. and I have mine.  When she takes her paintings home and people compliment them.....she knows it's "all her".

I still can't paint glass....but....this new stencil is going to change that for me.  I figure that if I can get better with the glass by using the stencil, then, eventually, I will be able to do it without the stencil. We'll see.......

One other thing.....Nika Rouss (Nika in Wonderland) did a video and my painting looks a lot like hers, because she is one of my favorites and I am very inspired by her paintings.  I used different stencils and paint.  After you watch my video, you should check out hers....it's fantastic!!

Back to Basics with Gel Press® Blog Hop

Gel Press 101 Back to Basics

With all the kiddos heading back to school, Gel Press® thought we should take you back to the basics!  Please visit each blog for an idea or technique that you may or may not have seen before!  Happy Hopping!

I love this technique.....letting the paint on the plate dry completely before adding another layer.  You can add as many layers as you want before making a print on paper.

Supplies

5" X 7" Mixed Media Paper
The Crafters Workshop #355 Stencil
"Gears" Stencil
Acrylic Paint - Titan Buff, Teal, Green Gold, Black, Copper
Black Charcoal Pencil
White Sakura Gellyroll Pen

Step One - Place stencil on plate and sponge on some Titan Buff

Step Two - After the paint dries, sponge on some Teal

Step Three - After paint dries, sponge on Green Gold

Step Four - After paint dries, brayer on black through the "Gears" stencil.  Remove stencil.

Step Five - After paint dries, brayer Bronze over entire plate.

Step Six - While the bronze paint is still wet, place paper over plate and rub for approximately and minute or two, then slowly pull print.  Check while you're pulling to make sure that all of the paint layers are lifting....if not, replace paper and rub some more....then pull.

I added a little shading with a black charcoal pencil and little white dots with a Gellyroll pen.

Now, hop on over to the next link, below, to see more great "Gel Press® 101 Back to Basics" projects.

Creative Heart Monday - Abstract Mixed Media How To

Happy Creative Heart Monday!!

Today, we're doing an, abstract, mixed media project, using acrylic paint and Gel Press® prints.  I'm using a brayer to apply the paint to an 11" X 14" piece of Bristol Mixed Media paper.

This is similar to the technique that I used last week on Yupo paper.

Supplies

11" X 14" Bristol Mixed Media Paper
8" X 10" Gel Press® Plate
Golden Acrylics - Cerulean Blue Hue, Cobalt Blue Hue, Green Gold, Teal, Quinacridone Magenta, Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold, Titan Buff, Mars Black
Fineline Bottle
Sakura Gellyroll Pen - White
Neocolor II Crayons

Check in later this week.....a follower ask me if I would do a video on drawing faces.  I'm not a expert, but I'm going to show you what I know.  Almost all of what I know about drawing faces was learned by other artists on YouTube or online classes that I've purchased.

Have a great Monday and a wonderful week.

Trying out Pastels - Abstract Flowers

I ran out of Yupo paper today, so I had to stop the acrylic ink jag that I've been on.  Sooooooooo......I noticed my pastels.  I've had them for a while, but haven't really tried them.

This is what I did.....obviously, I need some practice, but it was fun.

I am loving these acrylic inks.  I have Dr. Ph. Martens and F&W.  I also used some High Flow Golden Acrylics.  The scribbly writing was black paint in a Fineliner bottle.
