Happy Creative Heart Monday!!

I went to the thrift store last week, looking for canvases, and found this, wall-mounted, coat rack.  The panel popped out, so it was easy to "mixed media" it up a little.

Mercury Glass - I Did It!

I've watched several tutorials on making faux mercury glass.  It took me forever to find the paint - but I found it.  That was about 2 months ago and I've been too afraid to take the cap off the paint.

But........today I said "no more - I'm going to spray mirror paint into a glass jar and no one is going to stop me!"

These photos aren't the best, but I am fairly pleased with my first try.

First, I sprayed the Krylon Looking Glass paint into the jar.  I kept turning the jar around to let the paint roll over the inside.  After it was covered with the thin coat, I sprayed water into the jar (using a spray bottle).  Again, I turned the jar around, moving the water.  The glass was still not as covered as I wanted, so I sprayed some more paint, rolled it around, then poured the small amount of paint, that pooled in the jar, out onto some paper towels.  Then I just set the jar aside and waited for it to dry.

I have a glass lamp, that I picked up at Goodwill, that I want to paint with the mirror paint.  I think that I am going to practice on a couple more jars or bottles before I brave the lamp.

Really Quick Framed Doilies

Here's one that I was able to complete.

I found plain black plastic frames at Michael's for 50 cents.  (Whatta ya gonna do - when something's .50, you buy it.)  4 sheets of linen scrapbook paper for .12 a piece, and 4 doilies for $1.00 a piece.  The doilies were in the dollar bins.

So I just trimmed the paper to fit inside of the frame.  Used some double-sided tape to attach the doilies and VOILA.  As you can see by the pictures, I could have done a little better job with the doilies.  If you iron them before you tape them, I'm sure that they would be more even.

So, let's see $1.72 times 4 is $6.88, plus tax.  Not bad and it only took about 30 minutes start to finish!
