Gel Press Prints - Fields of Gold

Here's my new "Just Gellin" video!!

I did a collage landscape.  Last night I heard Sting's Fields of Gold and, immediately thought....get out the Gel Press plate and make some gold-ish gel prints.  I used some metallic paint, along with my regular acrylic paints.

Just Gellin' Gel Print Circle Art

This is my first "Just Gellin" post.  Since, I am on the Gel Press Creative Team, I will be, periodically, posting videos and tutorials using prints, created on my Gel Press Printing Plate.  I like to name everything, so these will be called "Just Gellin'".

Here's a quickie that I did today.  I used prints that I, previously, made on a Gel Press How-To Video. Creative Heart Monday - Mixed Media Face "Halo"

Happy Creative Heart Monday to all of you 

creative hearts out there!!

This week I started out by using all of the gel print scraps.  I use my gel prints for lots and lots of stuff, and I just can't throw away, even the tiniest scrap.  Does that make me a "gel print hoarder"?  Perhaps.   I made these prints on my Gel Press Mono-Printing Plate.  As I've mentioned before, I usually make copies of the prints that I love, and use the copies in my collage.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the video......I had some issues.  I don't know why, but my products just didn't want to work with me on this project.  On many other faces, I start out with a basecoat of Ceramcoat Paint.  It's sort of like craft paint....tiny bottle,....inexpensive.  It, usually provides a really nice base for the Prismacolor pencils.  On this one, it just gave me a hard time.  The paint was too shiny/slick....the pencils just wouldn't work.  The only thing that I can think of is that I did not gesso the paper first. However, I don't know why that would matter because I still would have been using the pencils over the paint.  Maybe my paint is getting to old.  I will get to the bottom of this and let you know.

Gel Printing How-To....Finally

I, finally, decided to do a video showing how I make my prints on the gel plate.  There are a lot of them online. That's how I learned to do it.  I decided, since I use them in so many of my projects, that I should demonstrate how I do it.

Printing on a gel plate is lots of fun (it can be, rather addictive).  Having a good stock of printed papers around makes life easy when you are hit with a spark of creative passion.

I used a 6 inch Gel Press plate in the video.  I hope that you enjoyed it.  Here are some other videos and posts showing how I use my prints.  I've also used them to make jewelry.....maybe I will do a video on that someday.

Playing around with Gelli Plates Again

I really love the Gelli Arts gelatin plate for monoprinting.  It is so easy and it's really simple to clean up. Inexpensive craft paint works the best.  The prints make great collage paper or backgrounds.

Here are a few that I did this afternoon.

Also, here's a painting that I did in my art journal some time ago.  I was flipping thru today and I had forgotten all about this one.  I touched the trees up a bit.  This is a little dark for me.

This is the Gelli plate that I use - the 8X10.

Gelli Prints - So Cool!

I found the coolest thing on Youtube.  I watched the video, then immediately had to order one of the plates.  It's a thick gel plate that comes in different sizes.  I got the 8X10.  I'll describe the process, but you really need to watch the video.

I placed the gelli plate on a piece of waxed paper. I just used inexpensive, acrylic craft paints and regular copy paper. I squeezed a little paint onto the geletin plate, then spread it around with a rubber brayer. I have cut some rings out of copy paper, then laid them randomly on top of the paint, then placed a clean sheet of paper on top and rubbed across the whole thing with my hand.

When I pulled the paper up, the paint had transferred and left the ring design. I let the paint dry (it dries very fast), then did it again with a different color and some different paper shapes on top.

I also pressed a stencil into the paint of some of them.  On the one to the left, I used a honeycomb stencil.  You can use all kinds of things to create different images.  

These papers would be great to use in collages or to make cards.  I plan to use them, instead of purchased decorative papers, for a the background on a series of greeting cards. (of course, as we know, I plan to do a lot of things)
