My First Art Tutorial Video

I, finally, did it!  I've been wanting to make an art video for years........and I did it.

I am not the most computer savvy person when it come to videos, editing, etc.  My dear husband modified a tripod for me so that I could shoot straight down.  None of my digital cameras worked so I used my Iphone 6.  Most of the video is upside down because I can't figure out which way the camera is supposed to go.  But, I managed to shoot it anyway.

Our, good friend, Roberto Vally, made an album last year (I think), called "Boom. Boom, Boom". He was gracious enough to let me use one of his songs, "Latin Lounge".  I think it went perfectly with the time lapse portion.  I plan to use more of his music in future videos.

To be honest, I'm not that thrilled with the piece of art in the video.  I was obsessing over the filming so much that I kind of dropped the ball on the art.  I'll do better next time....I promise.

Blue Beatrice Painting Step by Step

I wanted to paint something a couple days ago, but I didn't have any ideas. So, since I haven't played with my Molding Paste (Golden) in a while, I laid some mesh and a stencil on the canvas and pushed the paste thru with a pallet knife. I forgot to take a picture of this step.  It takes about 24 hours to completely dry. I let it dry overnight.

Still, a day later, I didn't have any firm concept, so I just started by slapping some blue and white paint on a 12" X 12" canvas. I started dripping, thinned, fluid acrylic and airbrush paint along the top of the canvas, just letting it go wherever it wanted.

I've been organizing my art supplies recently and have come across many, many things that I haven't seen in over a year. I have a rubber stamp by Pam Carriker (I love her art).  The stamp was 4" X 3", so I made a copy, enlarged it, cut a rough stencil out of cardstock and sponge the paint thru.

I can't stay away from the dots, lines and circles so, of course, I added them using the top of a small plastic container, a stamp that I cut out of an eraser, and stencil with dots.

I cut a, sort of, starburst stencil out of cardstock and added the rays with Golden Quinacridone Azo Gold.  I went back with some black gesso and re-painted the face.

Such a Pretty Girl Collage

I wanted to make a little plaque.  Here's my step-by-step process.

First a painted a wooden plaque with gesso.  You can get these little plaques in different sizes and shapes at Michaels for a dollar or two.

I ripped up some decorative paper.

I glued the paper to the surface with matte medium.

It's hard to  see in this next picture, but I painted around the edges of the paper with Golden Fluid Acrylic in Titan Buff.  It just sort of blends the papers together to give it kind of an aged look.  I use Titan Buff A LOT when I paint.

Next, I started spraying and stamping.  I used Dylusions Spray inks.  The Tim Holz Distress Paint Dabber bottles are great.  I used them with the stencils.  The arrow-type stamp at the bottom is one that I made out of adhesive foam sheets.  One of these days, I'll take pictures of all the stamps that I have made out of foam.

I kept working on the background, adding a lot more ink, then I started on the girl.  In Suzi Blu style, I drew the face on a sheet of regular paper, then shaded it with Prismacolor Colored Pencils.  I cut the dress pieces out of decorative, scrapbook paper, and attached paper arms.  I glued the girl to the background with matte medium.  I sculpted the hair with Golden Molding Paste.  I wrote the words with a Micron marker on regular white paper, cut them out, rubbed black ink around the edges, and glued them with matte medium.

After allowing the hair to completely dry overnight, I used craft paint in brown and glittery gold to paint the hair.  I added some ornaments in the hair and on the dress, painted gold around the edge of the plaque and VOILA, finished!!

This is a great book if you want to learn how to draw faces.  I had never drawn a face before I got it.
