I want to take a minute to mention Tom Petty. His death last week made me really sad. He was from my town and even though I never had the opportunity to meet him, many of my friends went to school with him. I loved his music and "Room at the Top" has always been one of my favorite songs. RIP Tom.
I'm making all kinds of texture today. I couldn't think of what to do.....so I decided to do it all. I even pulled out the fusible interfacing that I bought a couple years ago. I also watched a video on making "faux handmade paper".......that was soooooo easy.
I know, I know.....it's Tuesday. Things just ran away from me last week. But, I did finish a quick project today. Since, I'm completely out of new canvases, I grabbed an old canvas and used acrylic paints and Inktense pencils. I bought these Inktense pencils awhile back because I always saw people using them and creating beautiful things. I need to try them more often.

This week, things are a little different. Last week was, extremely, busy for me and I never got around to making a "real" Creative Heart Monday project.
So....I'm trying to make up for it by including 2 videos. The first one is a video of a project that I made for the Gel Press Blog a couple of months ago. The post was a "step-by-step" with photos. I filmed the project, but did not include the video in the post.......so here it is.......

Now for Number Two
I've been taking an online class by Donna Downey - Abstract Florals. I just love her abstract flower paintings, and would love to be able to create lovely abstract pieces. Over the past couple of years, I have taken several of her shorter, online, classes, and have always been very pleased. I, finally, couldn't stand it anymore and signed up for the Abstract Florals course. I have not been disappointed. She includes so many videos. She does each painting "start-to-finish" and she is very easy to listen to. I have taken many, many online classes by other artists....most I like....there have been one or two that I ended up disappointed (but it's all personal preference)....I'm sure that others were able to get more out of them than me.
Anyway.....here's my first attempt at a painting from the course. It's wack. I think that when I have the video camera on, I tend to rush thru things (which is kind of ridiculous because I can always hi-speed in editing). I'm going to be working on my flowers and backgrounds this week. As I go, I'll put some pix on my blog and Facebook, so that we can see if I'm getting any better.
Today's project is really colorful and really textured. I wanted to use some molding paste....so I did...and, quite honestly....I didn't know where to go from there. This whole thing was kind of a "winging it" piece.

I forgot to mention this in the video, but I sprayed the piece with a Fixative after I added the Gelatos, because I knew that I would not be able to add the Gellyroll Pen or the Big Brush Markers over the Gelatos or the Dylusions Ink. Dylusions bleeds thru everything. This is, actually, a wonderful thing if that is the look that you are going for (which I did want to a certain extent).

I've been making a lot of prints on my Gel Press plate, so this is a very colorful piece. I've also seen quite a few wings, birds, and butterflies, recently....so, I figured I would get in on this.

Note: In case it wasn't clear in the video. To make the butterfly, I printed a picture from the computer onto a piece of cardstock. I covered the back of the cardstock with the prints, then cut it out from the other side.
I was, originally, going to use the words "Fly Away" on this piece. Then, while I was making it I heard, Donovan's song "Catch the Wind" playing during the credits of a TV show. I thought "how perfect!" It just goes to show that you never know where inspiration will pop up.
I did a collage landscape. Last night I heard Sting's Fields of Gold and, immediately thought....get out the Gel Press plate and make some gold-ish gel prints. I used some metallic paint, along with my regular acrylic paints.

Printing can be so addictive and it's very easy to end up with lots and lots of prints. They can be used in so many different ways. Check out Gel Press Junkies for some ideas.
This week I'm trying out a new supply....Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Artist Inks! They are just so bright and pretty that I had to try them.
I started out on an 11" X 14" piece of Strathmore Bristol Paper. I love this paper.....but I'm also have a canvas shortage. I have to get some canvases this week, or I will end up painting on the walls.

While I was applying this ink to the paper, I was thinking of a million other ways to use this product. I can't wait to play around with it some more.
I took an online course last week by Jodi Ohl. It was great! Maybe next week I will show you what I've learned.
