Give-A-Way - Drawing for a 3" X 5" Gel Press Plate

I'm having a Give-A-Way!!!!  

Subscribers to this blog and members of my Mixed Media Passion Facebook Page, have a chance to win a 3" X 5" Gel Press® Plate.  

All you have to do to enter the drawing is post a picture of one of your creations here on this post or on the Mixed Media Passion Facebook Page, on or before July 10, 2016.  

Obviously, it would be wonderful if you posted a piece that you have made on a gel plate (it can be any kind of plate, purchased, homemade, whatever)....but....it does not have to be gel print art.  

This is a drawing....not a judging of art......basically, I just want to see your art LOL. It can be a craft piece,.....just whatever you like to do! 

Unfortunately, this is for U.S. residents only.  

On July 11th at 10AM EDT, I will post a video of the drawing. Then I will ship out the winner's, brand new, Gel Press® Plate.

Here's my project!

I started out by making 12 round prints on my 8" Gel Press plate.  These prints are very random.  For this project, you really don't need to put a lot of thought into it.........just keep putting paint and stencils on the plate.  That's what's so wonderful about printing on the Gel Press - everything looks cool.  The photos on the left are the first pulls and the ones on the right are the, completed, prints.

Now, this was the "somewhat" hard part.  I had to go back to my geometry days to figure out the measurements for the squares inside the circles.  The circles in the squares are easy - just measure the diameter of the square and cut out a circle the same size.  

To make the squares fit inside the circles, measure the diameter of the circle and that is going to be the diagonal measurement for your square.....for example....if your circle is 4", draw a line 4", then another 4" line that bisects the first line exactly in the middle, making a right angle, then draw lines, connecting all corners to make a square.  The square should fit, perfectly (or pretty close) in the circle.

For each circle and square that I made, I cut another one 1/4" smaller.  Then I started layering them.  Here's a quick video to show how I put this together.

I used fluid matte medium to put them down.

Then, I used a black charcoal pencil to shade around each circle and square to give the whole piece some depth.

When it was finished, I sprayed it with a, glossy fixative.

Okay, it's the 20th and I'm on #8.  Wil I make it?  That's 21 more faces - I just don't know, but I'm going to keep going.  I just did this one while sitting out here watching my chickens chase grasshoppers.  

And here are the lovely slippers that I'm wearing!

What happened to my winter?  My peach tree is already blooming.

#3 and #4 of 29 Faces

Ok, I'm so far behind on my 29 Faces Challenge that I'm going to cheat a little bit.  C'mon, there's two faces in this piece, right?  I do have a certain amount of guilt because this is such an easy piece, but I just really love to color.  I liked to color when I was little and I still do.

What I should do is paint the faces like this on a canvas, then layer transparent fluid acrylic over it in different color squares.  Or, I could do the faces and layer different colored tissue paper squares with gel medium.

Of course, what I really need to do today is clean up my studio!

I'm not even believing that I'm showing this disgusting mess.  I don't get it.  I swear that I clean it and within one sitting I've got stuff all over the place.  It's a good thing that I can close the door.

Just a quick drawing.  This was a Maybelline mascara ad.  I need to work on this some more.  It's pretty rough, but I need to catch up if I'm going to make it to 29.

#1 of the 29 Faces

I want to take part in 29 Faces, which started on February 1st, so I'm a little behind.  I'm going to try to get caught up in the next couple days.  So, get ready to see a bunch of faces for a while.


This was really fun to do.  I used a Sharpie pen and just started making "hair".  I don't think any of my patterns are "official" Zentangle patterns.  They are more like "Zendoodling". My husband wants me to do the other half of the face, but make it male.

I want to keep the original black and white.  I might go to Kinkos to make a good copy, then add some color to it with my Prismacolor pencils.  We'll see.

Playing with a Sharpie Pen and a Pencil

I'm trying to practice my shading.  I finally figured out what a tortillion is used for.  They make it so easy to blend the graphite pencil.  A tortillion is just, tightly, rolled paper that comes to a sharp point at the end.  They come in various sizes.  I watched a tutorial once on making them yourself, but they are so inexpensive,I don't know if it would be worth it.

Here are my recent attempts at shading.

I'm pretty pleased with myself, actually.

Valentine Doodling and a Crocheted Blanket

I've been doodling around with these hearts for a couple days.  That was a lot of hearts to color.  I used Sharpies.  I cut the angels out of a French school book, then attached them to the page with a glue stick.

My anniversary is Valentines Day.  It will be 24 years.  It's gone by so fast.  When I look at pictures of us in the 90's, it's hard to believe how much we have changed.

I just took this blanket out of the dryer and decided to take a picture of it.  This is, probably, my favorite thing that I have crocheted.  It's 100% cotton.  It feels so heavy and soft.  I love the texture.  I used single and double crochet stitches.  It's great when things turn out the way you wanted.  It's also great when I actually finish a crochet project.  I have plastic containers full of semi-complete afghans, bathing suits, sweaters, shrugs, socks.  You name it - I have it, partially crocheted!
