Creative Heart Monday 1/4/2016 "Three Friends"

Here it is!  My first ever Creative Heart Monday video.



Creative Heart Monday is a, free, weekly, video series where I will be creating a piece of art, start to finish, using various mixed-media techniques and supplies.

In this first video, I grabbed a bunch of things that I never use...handmade stamps, dimensional paint, hand-cut stencils, etc.  Without a solid plan, I just played around.  I ended up with a very colorful piece.  All of the supplies are mentioned in the video, but here is another complete list:

Inspired by Denise Alloca

Every Teusday, I get an email from Donna Downey with a new video by one of a group of artists that she has put together. It's called Artist Gang Teusday.  Yesterday's video was by Denise Alloca.  She creates a grouping of three paintings.  They always incorporate a Donna Downey Studios product (stencil, stamp, etc.).  I checked out Denise Alloca's site and found another video that she did with cute flowers.  I decided to do one. As you can see......I, basically, copied her.  Obviously, I would never use this design on anything that I planned to sell since it's not my own.  But, it's wonderful that there are artists out there that show us different techniques so that we can practice and learn new things.  I didn't have, exactly, the same supplies that she used ie:  different stencils, Derwent instead of Stabilo pencils, shorthand paper instead of music paper.  I also had to write the word "Truth" because I didn't have the stamp.....but I do plan to get these stamps because my handwriting isn't that great.

Number 2 of my series of little houses

I just finished another mixed media collage and listed it, for sale, on etsy.

I am doing a series of painting/collages of little houses.  They are fun to do and I really like the way they are turning out.

I also have another project in the works.  Chalkboards are everywhere now.  People use them to designate seating at parties and weddings.  They are used as home décor.

I have tons of frames that I have picked up over the years, so I decided to try my hand at making some "shabby chic" chalkboards.

My Favorite Christmas Present

My father is very handy.  Actually, that's putting it lightly.  He has always been very talented and knowledgeable.  Having a father that can fix anything, makes a young girl feel like all guys are that way.  It's funny because through the years, all of my relationships have been with men that know how to do the dirty work.  I know that this is not the norm because some of my friends' husbands and partners don't know which end of the hammer to use, but they know how to dial a handyman's phone number, which is just fine.

Several months ago, I caught wind that my sister had asked my father to build an easel for her because she planned to start painting.  Sibling rivalry being what it is (even at 52), I immediately told him that I'd like to have one too.  I didn't say or hear anything more about it.

Then.............on Christmas morning, when my husband and I arrived at my parent's home, there were 2 beautiful easels on display as we walked in the door.  My parents had put big Merry Christmas signs on them for me and my sister.

Being the perfectionist, the wood was beautifully stained, every bolt, screw, chain, etc. was painted to match, and a pretty light was attached to the top.  I was so surprised and pleased.  Thanks, Dad!
