Creative Heart Monday - Caribbean Queen Mixed Media Painting

Happy Creative Heart Monday!!

Today's painting turned out a little different than I had planned.  My girl was going to have teal hair. I added a little black around the face to add some drama....it looked like black hair and I liked it, so I went with it.  It just goes to show that you never know what might happen when your painting.  You have to keep an open mind!!

Colorful Bird

 

I made this little piece a couple months ago.

I was, actually, making it as a Christmas gift for my mother.  She likes birds.  However, I don't think she's really that crazy about the style of my art, so I gave her a gift card instead.  

 

This technique is so easy.  I used the same technique for this one http://ceeceeart.blogspot.com/2014/02/10-of-29-faces.html

 

I covered the substrate with a decorative napkin, sealed it with gel medium, drew the bird using a stencil, then painted the rest with, watered down, white gesso.  I finished it off with some stamping and charcoal pencil around the bird.  That's it.

 

These would make cute cards.  Maybe I will try that next.  Although, I am always saying that I'm going to turn everything into cute cards.

Today's face was inspired by Jane Davenport's Looking for Drama.  She started out by using, decorative, napkins to collage the base, then worked with, paint pens, gesso, and other bits of paint and pencils.  

I plan to invest in some better paint pens.  Jane uses Montana.  The only one that I have is a white Sharpie that leaves big blobs of watery paint everywhere.

So here's #10.  I need to start thinking about #11 now.
