Inspiration From The GREATS - Pablo Picasso

It's time for the, monthly, Inspiration From The GREATS, project!  This month I was inspired by Pablo Picasso.  The art piece took a long time, but I did really enjoy it........very meditative.

Picasso worked in many styles, but he was considered the co-founder of Cubism, along with Georges Braque.  So, I decided to try some cubism on a few chickens.

#3 and #4 of 29 Faces

Ok, I'm so far behind on my 29 Faces Challenge that I'm going to cheat a little bit.  C'mon, there's two faces in this piece, right?  I do have a certain amount of guilt because this is such an easy piece, but I just really love to color.  I liked to color when I was little and I still do.

What I should do is paint the faces like this on a canvas, then layer transparent fluid acrylic over it in different color squares.  Or, I could do the faces and layer different colored tissue paper squares with gel medium.

Of course, what I really need to do today is clean up my studio!

I'm not even believing that I'm showing this disgusting mess.  I don't get it.  I swear that I clean it and within one sitting I've got stuff all over the place.  It's a good thing that I can close the door.

Greeting Cards!

Here are a few cards that I've made.

I would like to make a series of cards and try to sell them on Etsy.com.  We'll see.

The Painting that Never Ends

I've been working on this painting since December 26th.  I paint a little bit, then let it hang around for awhile. Then, after starting at it for a few days, I'll go back to it, trying something different.  I have a real "painter's block" with this one.

I started out in a geometric mode - 

then I tried a little pallet knife action -

today, I decided there was too much pallet knife and that from now on, whenever I don't like something, I'm just going to paint it black.

Now, of course, this reminds me of a Rolling Stones song

"I see a red door and I want it painted black

No colors anymore, I want them to turn black"

So, we'll let this version hang around for a few days and see how it goes.

Playing around with stencils

My original idea was to paint a canvas with lots of different colors, then cut out paper dolls and attach them to the canvas, then paint white over it.

So I flipped thru several fashion magazines and carefully cut out the models.  Then I glued the magazine models to cardstock and cut out the dolls again.  I was pretty happy with the way that the canvas turned out.  I used spray paint and acrylic paints.  Then I made a mistake.  I started stamping various designs over the paint with archival ink - bad choice.  It seems to repel paint.  So when I spray painted the canvas white, you can see little black flowers peeking thru here and there.  As you can see, the paint got under the stencil so I didn't get the sharp lines that I had envisioned.  Even though I'm putting a photo of it up now, I'm going to do a lot more work on it.  This will just be my bottom layer.

However, I did discover that any time you cut out a paper doll, you also have a reverse stencil, so I played around with some of my citra solv papers and convolution papers that I have made and this is what I came up with.

I think these are kind of cute. Maybe I will make some small ones that I could put on greeting cards.  Sure - I'll get right on that.  See you later.
