Gel Printing How-To....Finally

I, finally, decided to do a video showing how I make my prints on the gel plate.  There are a lot of them online. That's how I learned to do it.  I decided, since I use them in so many of my projects, that I should demonstrate how I do it.

Printing on a gel plate is lots of fun (it can be, rather addictive).  Having a good stock of printed papers around makes life easy when you are hit with a spark of creative passion.

I used a 6 inch Gel Press plate in the video.  I hope that you enjoyed it.  Here are some other videos and posts showing how I use my prints.  I've also used them to make jewelry.....maybe I will do a video on that someday.

Creative Heart Monday - "Circles"

Happy Monday to all of you Creative Hearts!

Today, I'm into circles, circles, and more circles.  This is a playful piece with lots of color and a nod to Valentine's Day.......and my 26th anniversary.

Gelli Print Birds

Those of us who enjoy using our Gelli Plates know that it's very easy to accumulate an enormous pile of them very quickly.  So, what to do....what to do.....make some birds, of course.

(Excuse the photos.  They are actually much more colorful.)

I started out by attaching the, cut up, gelli prints to a 10" X 10" canvas with Liquitex Matte Medium.

I used the Donna Downey Mini Numbers Repeat stencil and latch hook rug mesh with black paint, randomly, around the canvas.

Then, using a white charcoal pencil, I sketched my birds.

I painted around the birds with Pool Blue craft paint.

More stencilling with Donna Downey Scribble Script, a chickenwire type stencil, bubble wrap and a rubber stamp to create more background texture.

I outlined the birds with a Stabilo All pencil, then went over it with a water brush.  Painted the eyes with gesso and pool blue.  Shaded with a charcoal pencil. Then painted the edges of the canvas with black paint and ran a line of black charcoal to define the edges.

This is a quick and easy project.  I'd like to try some different animals.

Collaged Boxes

When I become addicted to something, I really become addicted to it.......that is until the next shiny object grabs my attention.  For the past few weeks, it's been collaged boxes.  Cute little boxes that I cover with my hand-painted papers.

I have tons of hand-painted papers and gelli prints (another "addiction" phase).  I love to slap paint on a piece of paper, add stencils, stamps, little drawings with paint pens, etc.  These can really pile up!

I was waiting for a friend at a doctors appointment, looking at Pinterest on my phone, and came across a pix of beautiful boxes, picture frames, and other artwork that had been collaged with painted papers.  The artist's name is Diane Salter.  Her things were beautiful, so I had one of those "I can do that" moments.  Her's are much more intricate than mine, but she inspired me to try.  Thank you Diane Salter!

I already had several small wooden boxes in my huge stash of "stuff that I'm going to do something with" closet.  (this reminds of the saying "The woman who dies with the most art supplies WINS").

Here's my first box.

Then, I had to start adding little feet to them.

You might notice on this box that there are little, irregularly shaped, silver pieces on it.  There is, actually a funny story behind this.  I went to lunch with my friend.  As I was heading out the door to lunch, the strap on my purse broke.  I grabbed an old purse from my box of purses, only to realize on the way to the restaurant, that the faux leather was starting to peel in a little section.  During our lunch, my purse was actually disentegrating.  Everywhere I went, I was leaving a little trail of silver, faux leather, purse dandruff in my wake.  On the drive home I looked at my peeling purse and thought "that purse dandruff would be great collage material".....and it was!  So, the lesson here is - keep all of your crappy purses until they fall apart, or, maybe it's just that you never know what can be upcycled.

Then I had to Zentangle one.

Handmade Cards

I made a couple cards yesterday, using some papers that I printed on the Gelli Plate.

On this one, I cut out the flower petals and leaves, then collaged them on with gel medium.  I ripped up some handmade paper that I bought a long time ago with the Japanese writing.  Outlined everything with a Pitt pen and added some white gesso circles with the end of a straw.  I added some washi tape at the bottom.

For this one, I just cut three strips from papers that I made earlier.  Printed the word "Love" on the computer, then cut it out and glued it to a scrap of Gelli print.  I used gel medium to attach everything, then added more gel medium to the top.  I also, outlined everything with a black, archival pen.

Gelli Printing Tape

I watched this video about making tape with your Gelli Printing Plate and figured that I would give it a try.

Gelli Transfer Tape

It was easy and I plan to make more.

I used regular clear packing tape, acrylic paint, and rubber stamps.  When I pulled the print from the plate, I put it on a book page.  I could have used the Perfect Pearl powders for a shimmery addition or just left the empty areas clear.

There are lots of  uses for the tapes, ie:  collage pieces, decorate a gift or mailer.  You could use it on art journal pages.

People are so CREATIVE!!

While I was in the mood, I also made a tag/bookmark with Dylusions alcohol ink, Golden acrylic paint, rubber stamps, book pages from a "shorthand" book.  I liked the colors so I did the same thing on a cut up cereal box (thank you mother, for saving all of your cereal boxes for me).  I will probably make a few copies on regular copy paper and use them as backgrounds or collage papers.

Just Doodling.

This was actually a piece of paper that I was using to clean off my brayer and stencils while I was doing some Gelli prints a few weeks ago.  I had also wiped off some spray ink on it.  So, I just started doodling and zentangling around the splotches.
